Mixed — reflect carefully
A late reply tells you only that there is no reply yet. It does not explain why. Ask when you can instead of filling the gap with fear.

STORY & REFLECTION
A late message that answered no hidden question
Research-based illustration · Mind reading and checking the evidence
Illustrative scene: A dinner invitation is read but unanswered. The sender rereads their words and starts to believe the other person no longer wants to meet.
That evening, the partner explains that a meeting began just after opening the message. They agree on a brief acknowledgment when possible. Facts replace the story that guessing had built.
An NHS guide lists mind reading as assuming we know another person's thoughts without evidence. A late reply tells us only that the message has not arrived; it does not prove lost interest or deliberate punishment.
A gap between messages has many possible explanations. Give a calm question a chance before an accusation.
Reflection
A delayed reply does not reveal the whole story.
A small action today
Wait reasonably and ask directly rather than assume.
A question to reflect on
What do you know about this silence, and what are you guessing?
