STORY & REFLECTION
A future plan that waited without pressure
Research-based illustration · Readiness and the right to choose
Illustrative scene: One partner wants a moving date this month. The other awaits a job decision and does not know what commute is possible. The nightly question begins to feel like a demand.
They set a date to revisit the plan after the job result and list what to check meanwhile. Time does not mean the plan has failed; it lets the answer belong to the person giving it.
Self-Determination Theory treats autonomy as acting in line with one's own choice. Pressure for marriage, moving, or parenthood may produce a fast answer, but it does not create consent as stable as time to think and ask necessary questions.
Giving time is not avoiding the truth. It helps make an answer informed and freely chosen.
