STORY & REFLECTION
Forgiveness without a deadline
Research-based illustration · Healing without forced reconciliation
Illustrative scene: After being lied to, someone hears an apology. Their partner then asks every day, “Are you over it yet?” Healing begins to feel like another deadline.
They ask for time and consistent honesty without promising to return to how things were. The other person's change may matter, but so does the hurt person's readiness.
Greater Good distinguishes forgiveness from forgetting, excusing harm, or restoring the old relationship. A hurt person may take time, set boundaries, and observe accountability before deciding what form of relationship is safe.
Forgiveness, trust, and reconciliation are different decisions. You may take time or choose not to return to the old arrangement.
Reflection
