Fortune #15
Good fortune
If your attention keeps leaving the page, adjust one part of your study space. Move a distraction and keep what you need within reach; a simpler start can make a short session useful.

- The education of the common people requires, perhaps, in a civilized and commercial society, the attention of the public more than that of people of some rank and fortune.
STORY & REFLECTION
The Astronomer Who Missed the Well
The Astronomer · Aesop's fable
An astronomer in Aesop's fable walks while gazing at the stars and falls into a well. Someone asks why he watched the distant sky but not the ground before him.
The fable need not tell us to stop caring about stars. Curiosity matters. It reminds us that attention pulled away from what is nearby can miss a practical need.
Notifications and tempting objects on a desk can become small wells for study. You need not make the room perfect; remove the thing that most often pulls you away.
Before a short study block, put your phone out of reach and prepare what you need. Afterward, see whether you can recall more of what you read.
