The Gold Never Put to Use
The Miser · Aesop's fable
A miser sells his belongings to buy a lump of gold and buries it. He visits the hiding place daily but never uses what he has stored.
When the gold is stolen, a neighbor asks how a stone would have served him differently. The fable is not advice to spend carelessly; it asks what value comes from something kept forever out of use.
Knowledge memorized but never applied can sit in a notebook like buried gold. Trying an idea in a real situation reveals what you understand and what still needs work.
Take one lesson and apply it to a nearby question or decision. It need not work perfectly. The attempt tells you whether the idea has become usable beyond the page.
