Mixed — reflect carefully
Rereading notes can feel reassuring because the page looks familiar. Close it and write three points from memory; any gap shows where your next review should begin.

STORY & REFLECTION
A Familiar Page, an Answer Out of Reach
Retrieval practice · review of learning research
Imagine a learner rereading the same notes. Every line looks familiar, so they feel ready. Then they close the page and cannot write the first main point. This is an illustrative scene, not a reported individual case.
A review of learning research finds that rereading alone often brings inconsistent gains, while retrieving information from memory helps across many settings. Familiarity with a page is not the same as being able to use its ideas.
Closing the notes is not a way to punish yourself. A blank answer identifies where to return. Check the source, then try recalling again later; this gives more information than another passive pass.
After one page, close it and write three main points. Compare them with the original and fill the gaps. The difficult first attempt is useful practice, not a verdict.
Reflection
Familiarity is not the same as usable understanding.
A small action today

How many main points can you explain without your notes?
