Caution
When the deadline is closer than the work left, turn the worry into a plan. Identify the essential parts, speak honestly to the instructor if you need more time, and start with the part that matters most.

STORY & REFLECTION
Stopping Before the Edge
The Ass and His Driver · Aesop's fable
An ass in a fable rushes toward a cliff. Its driver tries to pull it back, then lets go when it keeps struggling and says it must bear the cost.
The tale judges its character more harshly than we should judge real learners. Someone near a deadline does not deserve abandonment. What remains useful is the image of stopping to look at the path before going farther.
If an assignment is unfinished, pretending it is on schedule can delay a useful change of plan. Check the real time left and the essential parts, and tell the instructor early enough to discuss options.
Name one piece that must be done today and begin there. If you need more time, report your progress and plan honestly. Pausing to assess the route can keep a path forward open.
