Mixed — reflect carefully
The big goal does not need to be completed today. Break it into a first step you can do in a short time, then begin there. Progress will make fear smaller.

STORY & REFLECTION
NASA reached the Moon by building a bridge called Gemini
Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo · NASA
In 1961, the United States set a goal of landing people on the Moon and returning them safely before the decade ended. Project Mercury had only begun proving that humans could fly in space. The gap between a short Earth flight and a lunar landing contained skills nobody had mastered: long-duration flight, spacewalking, rendezvous, and docking.
NASA created Project Gemini as a “bridge to the Moon.” Missions separated critical capabilities: changing orbit, remaining in space for two weeks, meeting and docking with another vehicle, and controlling return to Earth. Across twenty months of crewed missions, Gemini converted a list of unknowns into tested skills that Apollo could combine for lunar flight.
Breaking the goal into steps did not make it smaller; it made it real. NASA still encountered failure and loss, but the sequence clarified what to test on Earth, what to test in orbit, and what was sufficiently understood for the next risk. A useful plan is more than a long list. Each step builds the capability required by the following one.
Write down your large goal and ask, “What capability must I prove before this becomes possible?” Then design a five-minute first action: open the file, name the section, or send one question. Beginning small does not diminish the dream. You are building your own Gemini, a bridge between what is possible today and what remains distant.
Reflection
One completed step is worth more than an unstarted grand plan.
