Fortune #04

Harland Sanders worked in several occupations before he began serving chicken to travelers at a Kentucky service station. He was forty when he started the roadside restaurant and spent years refining his cooking method and seasoning. The first franchise opened only in 1952. KFC was not the result of one magical night.

When transportation routes changed and the original restaurant was no longer the answer, Sanders sold it in 1956 and went on the road to find operators willing to use his recipe. What looked late in life became the period when the business model grew clearer. He could not make traffic return to the old road, so he changed how his strongest work reached customers.

Patience in this story was active. Sanders used time to refine a recipe, establish consistency, and change the model when conditions changed. The right moment did not arrive without preparation. It appeared when accumulated experience met a more suitable way of sharing it.

If you feel late, separate “not yet” from “doing nothing.” This may be the period for preparing work, practicing how to present it, or testing one new route. Something still developing needs care, not force. A calendar moving forward does not disqualify you from beginning.
