They choose a realistic stopping time, tell relevant people nonurgent work will wait until tomorrow, and rest without turning it into self-improvement homework. Work remains, but they can return to prioritize it.
NIMH recommends setting priorities, making time for suitable relaxing activities, and noticing what has been accomplished. Self-care need not wait until every task is finished.
