Mixed — reflect carefully
Equal numbers of tasks may still feel unfair if one person must remember and remind at every step. Count planning too.

STORY & REFLECTION
Work that looked equal on paper but felt unequal
Research-based illustration · Household tasks and invisible coordination
Illustrative scene: A chart gives each partner five chores. Yet one must remind the other daily that the bin is full and the pet needs medicine.
They change “help when told” to “own this task from noticing through finishing.” The number of chores is unchanged, but the mental work no longer sits with one person.
Pew's survey work shows that household labor matters to relationship satisfaction. Yet a claimed fifty-fifty split may omit scheduling, shopping, and reminders, so listing the whole workload helps partners discuss fairness from the same picture.
Fairness is not only the number of boxes on a chart. It includes who must notice and remember each task first.
Reflection
Invisible labor still counts.
