Illustrative scene: A team lead presents to executives. The closing slide has only their name, though a colleague caught the data error that made the report reliable.
Before sending the final deck, the lead adds the reviewer's name and explains what the correction changed. The colleague need not ask for credit, and the team sees that careful checking matters.
OPM describes performance management as planning, monitoring, developing, rating, and rewarding. Agreed goals and measures help people understand which results their effort should serve.
Crediting others does not diminish the presenter. It makes the account of the work more accurate.
