Fortune #37

Mixed — reflect carefully

If you reread the same paragraph without taking it in, fatigue may be asking for a pause. Rest, then return to one short task and notice whether you can think more clearly.

STORY & REFLECTION

The Page Who Fell Asleep

Karl and King Frederick · a published anecdote

Karl, a page in a published tale, works for a king until after midnight. When called the next morning, he is asleep in a chair outside the royal room.

The king sees a letter from Karl's mother and understands that the boy is trying to support his family, so he does not punish him. The tale should not make exhaustion admirable. Fatigue is still fatigue.

If you reread the same paragraph without taking it in, forcing more study may not help. Rest does not erase your effort; it may let you return to a small task with a clearer mind.

Rest, then try one question to see whether you can think again. If you still cannot, adjusting the plan or asking for help is a real option.
